Though I’m excited about the new jewelcrafting panther mounts, particularly for a guild mate of mine who’s a collector, I have to admit that the recent comment from Wryxian made my blood run cold. Specifically this little gem (gem? Get it?):
”These will be Jewelcrafter recipes and we're not actually completely decided on whether there will be a recipe for each colour, or whether the creation of one will produce one of the four colours at random.”
Please, please, please do NOT make these random. I understand why you might take that route, but it would be monumentally stupid to make a hugely expensive mount and then see someone spend a fortune getting three yellow ones in their aim for the black.
Seriously. Don’t do it. It’s not compelling, interesting, or fun to throw gold away, particularly when (like me) you can’t generally be arsed farming it.
Separate patterns only. You know it’s the right thing to do.
If that goes ahead I foresee a lot of trading arrangements happening. It really, really shouldn't happen on the basis that it would be cruelty to players, though.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't shock me to see "there's an AH, you know" arguments pop up. There's just no value, whatsoever, in making them random after a player puts a heck of a lot of effort into making a panther.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I'm excited about these, even considering dropping BS and going for Mining + JC in MoP just for these awesome mounts. Though worried about the cost.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of depends on what the "cost" is, if you catch my meaning - is it gold that's largely independent of actualy JC, or is it the cost of jewels themselves for non-miners?
ReplyDeleteI tend to think it's the former, though, as that's the route Blizzard went with the alchemy mount; it was the cost of all the extra bits outside of the actual profession that made it mount up.
Looking at a long time before anyone is running around on the black panther, I'd think. :P
